Russian dinner

I spent my winter holidays basking in the warmth of family, playing in the snow, attempting to play a new song on the guitar, learning to Wii, and reading style and food blogs.  This pic is for a recipe from one of my new favorite blogs, La Tartine Gourmande.

Simply divine, slightly nostalgic, makes me think of winter 2004-5.  The recipe is like the grown-up version of our infamous "Russian Dinner," a winter staple for poor students braving their first cold January in the Motherland.  Russian Dinner was a meal my friends and I would prepare in our sullen, gray, Soviet-style dorm as the falling white snow turned to brown slush outside on the streets.  Fruit, a rich, dark chocolate bar, and a cheap bottle of Georgian or Moldavian red wine was all we needed.  Всё.  That's it.

Как хорошо, как вкусно!  How good, how tasty!  How warming.  Perfect for homesick international students hoping to survive winter in the heart of Moscow.
